Lenten Retreat at Holy Cross Monastery

Friday, March 1, 2013, 9:00 AM to Sunday, March 3, 2013, 5:00 PM
Holy Cross Monastery

Reserve your space by February 1 for a Lenten Retreat at Holy Cross Monastery March 1-3.

Lent is a time of prayer and repentance as we prepare to hear the message of Easter. It is a time, where we join Jesus in the wilderness. This year, St. George’s has reserved ten spaces for those who wish to deepen their experience of Lent by going on a silent retreat. The retreat is called Let Me See! – Gazing, Insight, Healing and Foresight and takes place on Friday, March 1 to Sunday, March 3. This retreat is a program of Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, NY and is lead by the Rev. Martin Smith who is a well known Episcopal priest, spiritual teacher and retreat leader. During the retreat, silence is kept to allow space for reflection and listening to God’s message for us in our lives.

Holy Cross is a Benedictine Monastery in the Episcopal tradition. The monastery is situated on twenty-six magnificent acres on the west bank of the Hudson River. The grounds have an outdoor labyrinth and walking trails that follow the river. The brothers of the Order of the Holy Cross chant the daily office (Morning, Noon Day, Evening and Bedtime prayers) and the Holy Eucharist is celebrated daily. Those on retreat at the monastery are encouraged to attend the services but are not obligated.

Guest rooms are modest but are comfortable with shared bathroom facilities. One of the perks of being on retreat at the monastery are the meals. The food is prepared by a Culinary Institute of America-trained chef and vegetarian and gluten-free options are made available. Coffee, tea, cocoa and fresh fruit (and sometimes cookies) are available throughout the day. For further information on what to expect while at the monastery please visit their website.

If you wish to reserve a space for this retreat, please contact Cheryl Notari at chnotari@verizon.net. The total cost of this retreat is $250 (a special group rate) and it must be paid in full no later than February 1, 2013. We hope that you will consider this great opportunity to help you to prepare for the coming of Easter.
