Parish Life Committee

Coffee Hour:
Special Events:

The aptly-named Parish Life Committee is responsible for much of the fellowship that happens at St. George's. From lining up volunteers to provide coffee hour every Sunday, to holding parish picnics at the beginning and end of summer, planning the delicious annual Easter Sunday brunch and the elegant annual Christmas Eve reception, getting the men to cook for and clean-up after the annual Thanksgiving brunch, organizing the Annual Meeting luncheon, gala dances and receptions for special events, to last but not least having a major involvement in Broadway Revues, Shakespearean evenings and the Centennial, the Parish Life Committee can often be found at the heart of the fun and fellowship that make the St. George's community special.

Coffee Hour

It's easy! The Parish Life committee sets up the coffee maker and provides the juice - all the parishioner volunteer has to do is:

  1. Provide "a snack or two" for about 50 people; plain items are good for about 20 kids.
Example: 2 dozen bagels for adults and a dozen plain for kids or some combination.

  2. Set up using paper or cloth tablecloths and table.

  3. Coffee
  4. Clean up (completely).

  5. Wash OK, no dry necessary.

  6. Tie up garbage and put in dumpster.

Dinners for Eight

Dinners for Eight
Contact:

The way Dinners for Eight works: dinners of four couples each are held at parishioners' homes. The couple who hosts each dinner is responsible for providing the entree and beverages; the second couple brings the hors d'oeuvres; the third couple brings the vegetables, salad, and bread; and the fourth couple brings dessert.

Dinners are scheduled at four intervals throughout the year: October-December, January-February, March-April, and May-June. You commit to hosting one dinner, and you enjoy dining in the homes of three other parishioners. The attendees are rotated each time so you get to meet as many new people as possible. You will receive the list of who will be at your dinner and who brings which food to each dinner. It's really fun and really easy.

Every year we knit scarves, hats and vests for knit for the Seamen's Church Institute "Christmas at Sea" Program, and we have also participated in a variety of other projects benefiting children.
