Summer Worship: During July and August we will not change the Sunday service times, but instead will continue to hold Sunday services at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Depending on the heat and humidity, services may be be held downstairs in the newly renovated (and cooler) Parish Hall, except for July 6 and July 20, when services will be held in the church for Baptisms. Note that child care will not be provided during July and August, but will resume Sunday, September 7.

Second Sunday Family Eucharists will be held July 13 and August 10 at 9:15 a.m.. Weather permitting, they will be at the outdoor altar in the Memorial Garden.

The Wednesday evening healing service at 7:30 p.m. continues through July but will be suspended for August. It will resume on Wednesday, September 3. It has already moved to the outdoor altar in the Memorial Garden, and will continue there during July (weather permitting).

Coffee Hour Sign Ups: Do you like a little coffee and a treat after church? Then we would love for you to sign up to help make coffee hour the sweetest treat in town. Don't worry about how to make the coffee, a committee member will help with that. We just need some bagels or maybe some coffee cake and some fruit to help battle the munchies. Women's Initiative Meeting - Tuesday, July 16

Women\'s Initiative

A women's spirituality group this fall and initial planning of our activities for Women's History Month (March 2009) are the current focus of St. George's newly formed Women's Initiative - a group that is coalescing around the important issues of gender equality and women's connectedness and community, across age, culture, orientation and race.

Our meetings offer an opportunity to move our plans forward, while exploring the richness of our varied perspectives and viewpoints. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on Wednesday, July 16 at 8:00 p.m. in the Resource Center.

Newark Bears Baseball Outing - Friday, July 18

Newark Bears outing

Jane Jubilee is organizing a group outing to a Newark Bears minor league baseball game at Riverfront Stadium on Friday, July 18. It's the first game after the All-Star break, and there will a fireworks display after the game. Game time is 7:05 p.m.

Newcomers' Coffee with the Rector - Sunday, July 20

Coffee
The Newcomers and Greeters Committee invites all newcomers to St. George's to have coffee with the Rector on Sunday, July 20, immediately following the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist. This will give newcomers the opportunity to talk with the Rector and to learn more about the various ministries at St. George's.

If you began attending St. George’s within the last year and have not heard from us, please contact us to confirm your attendance and/or to provide us with your contact information, so that we can update our directory.

Summer Choir Camp - Week of August 25-29

St. George's Summer Choir Camp will be held the week of August 25-29 and is open to all boys and girls in grades K-12 who like to sing.

Children and youth in grades 3-12 can take part in the full-day program (9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., fee $175).
Children in grades K-2 can take part in the half-day program (9 a.m.-12 p.m., fee: $50).
Some scholarships are available.

The camp will conclude the evening of Friday, August 29 with a program for all campers, which starts with a Service of Choral Evensong at 6:00 p.m. and is followed by a cookout and talent show. Campers in grades 3-12 will then stay for a sleepover at St. George's ending 7:00 a.m. Saturday.

Choir Camp Staff

John Ayer graduated from the Hartt School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance and Choral Conducting. He received two Master of Music degrees in Organ Performance and Sacred Music. He has been involved in the field of church music for more than 30 years. John is Organist and Choirmaster of St. George's Church.

Christie Harrington holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Music History, and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance. She has taught voice for over 25 years and has been an Adjunct Professor at Hunter College and Barnard College. She is a member of St. George's and co-director of its Angel Choir.

Leighann Narum holds a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in classical guitar performance from the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music. A teacher with more than 25 years experience, she has been adjunct faculty at Rutgers University since 2000. She is a member of St. George's and co-director of its Angel Choir.

Joyce Hart is mother of choristers Hannah and Maggie, wife of choir member David, and can't carry a tune - but she brings years of life experience and an excellent driving record to her role as staff member. She is a member of St. George's and is delighted to be involved with Choir Camp.

Sunday School Registration

Sunday School Registration: A Sunday School registration brunch for parents and children will be held on Sunday, September 14 after the second Sunday Family Eucharist. If you’d like to beat the rush, you can register online! Classes resume Sunday, September 21. For more information about Sunday School, please contact , Director.

Outreach Committee Event: The Outreach Committee will begin the fall with a special event on Sunday, September 21 featuring Broadway House, a residential facility in Newark for adults living with AIDS. Outreach made a special grant to Broadway House last year, sponsoring a training session to help their staff deal effectively with the stress and grief that result from caring for residential AIDS patients. We have been impressed with the energy, enthusiasm and creativity that Broadway House brings to their difficult mission and look forward to sharing their work with you in September. Drama
Musical Rehearsals Start: Rehearsals will begin in late September for the Music Concert Series' major event for 2009, a full production of the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Andrew Lloyd Weber. Scheduled for three performances in February, it will be produced by Christie Harrington; directed by Lynn Lewis; musical direction by Kathleen Shelby; choreography and other movements are at Kevin Clark's direction; sets, lighting and sound will be overseen by Larry Jameson and Jim Harrington.
