Senior Youth Group

Mentors:

The Senior Youth Group is a ministry of St. George's Episcopal Church to the youth of the parish in grades 9 through 12. Our mission is to support them in living out their Baptismal covenant, and to increase their comfort level in coming to church and being able to talk about and with God. We strive to achieve this by "modeling church," by providing them with a safe place to seek, by helping them feel wanted and by helping them to make a contribution to the community of St. George's.

The Senior Youth Group meets monthly and activities include community outreach, fellowship and just plain fun. Some of our past events include movies, a dance, a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure and a Mission Trip to Mississippi.

Mission Trip to Mississippi

On November 9-13, 2006, the Senior Youth Group and adult chaperones went on a Mission Trip to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs, Mississippi to assist in the continued clean up following last year’s devastating hurricane season. They mainly helped with clean up in areas where heavy equipment would do more harm than good. See photos!

Confirmation Classes

Confirmation classes begin in September and continue weekly on Mondays from 6:00 - 6:45 p.m., excluding scheduled holidays. For more information, see Confirmation at St. George's.

Flamingo Flocking Fundraisers

November 10-19, 2005, the Dragons Youth Group held their first Flamingo Flocking Fundraiser to help five children and their families, who had relocated to this area after hurricane Katrina, settle into their new homes and school.

The first Flamingo Flocking was so successful, it was repeated November 10-18, 2006, with proceeds going to Heifer International, a non-profit organization that works with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth.
